Officials Attire at NS Sanctioned Competitions
Please note the following update regarding official attire at sanctioned competitions in Nova Scotia…
Effective immediately, Senior Officials will wear red polo shirts at all sanctioned competitions for all sessions (not just finals). Senior Officials will now wear red during both sessions of a prelims/finals meet and at timed final meets.
Timers will continue to wear white shirts at all meets and sessions.
Discontinuation of Recall Rope at Sanctioned Competitions
Effective immediately, the recall rope will no longer be used during sanctioned competitions.
In the event that a race needs to be recalled due to an unfair start or an officials’ error, swimmers will be notified through the standard recall procedures. The referee will blow their whistle again, and the recall button on the starting device will be activated.
Meet Referees are responsible for ensuring that cones (pylons) are properly set up at the 15-metre mark for all applicable events. Please be sure that two cones (pylons) are available if you are hosting a competition.
To support this, we are reaching out to see if you know of any officials who may be interested in pursuing the referee role or learning more about it. Ideally, these officials would already be Level 3 certified or actively working toward completing their Level 3.
Officiating Clinics
As we move into the second half of the swim season, Swim NS is planning to deliver a Referee Clinic.
To support this, we are reaching out to see if you know of any officials who may be interested in pursuing the referee role or learning more about it. Ideally, these officials would already be Level 3 certified or actively working toward completing their Level 3.
Over the next month, we will also be offering additional officiating clinics. These clinics can help officials progress along the current officiating pathway. Please let us know if there are specific clinics that would support progression, and we will do our best to accommodate those needs.
