Have Your Say - HRM's 2027-2028 Budget and Aquatic Infrastructure

October 18, 2026

From Swim NS:

For those of you living in HRM, I encourage you to take a few minutes to participate in the municipality's 2027-2028 Budget Engagement Process, either through the online survey or by attending one of the upcoming in-person sessions.

As HRM continues to experience significant population growth, we need to ensure our aquatic infrastructure keeps pace with the needs of our communities. Access to pools is about much more than competitive swimming. Aquatic facilities support public health and wellness for people of all ages, provide essential swimming and water safety education, and offer structured recreational opportunities for youth that contribute to safer, healthier communities.

Other Canadian cities are recognizing the importance of investing in aquatic infrastructure. For example, Regina, Saskatchewan, is moving forward with a new aquatic facility representing an investment of approximately $285 million, designed to support community recreation, swimming lessons and national-level competitions.

We need to ensure aquatic infrastructure is part of HRM's long-term planning and investment priorities. Your voice can help reinforce the importance of accessible, sustainable facilities for current and future generations.
