Annual 50 Free Eliminator!

As the days get shorter, it’s time to start preparing for the Annual 50 Free Eliminator!

This year’s Eliminator event will be held on Saturday, January 4th at Zatzman Sportsplex. Gold, Junior and Senior swimmers will arrive for 5:45am while Blue and FUNdamentals 2 & 3 swimmers will arrive for 6:45am. The event will wrap up at 9 am.

If you know that your swimmer will not be able to attend the Eliminator event on Jan 4th, please let your group coach know. This is to ensure we are efficient in our preparation and set up efforts.

For newer swimmers - here is a breakdown of what the event is all about: 

It starts with swimmers being seeded according to their times, like in a normal 50 free event. But then, as swimmers are eliminated and the field narrows, you have swimmers of different abilities/times competing against one another. The coaches then start to apply a “handicap” so that the races continue to be competitive. Eg. you may have Gold, NT and Blue swimmers in the same heat, but the slower swimmers leave first and get a head start. What usually happens is there is a Senior Squad swimmer in the final against a younger swimmer - the younger swimmer may get a 25m head start to keep it close. It’s all in fun and the kids are very vocal!
