Acadia Pool Closure
Hello Crusader families,
We want to share an important update regarding the Acadia University pool and its impact on our swimming community. It was recently announced that the pool will be closing this summer due to renovation costs exceeding the university’s budget. As a result, the Acadia Varsity Swim Team program will be discontinued, and the facility will be closed indefinitely.
The decision has far-reaching effects, not only on the varsity athletes (some of whom are former Crusaders) but also on the Wolfville Tritons Swim Club, whose members rely on the Acadia pool as their home training facility.
Those of you who have been Crusaders for more than 6 years will remember the 2-year closure of the Sportsplex for renovations, so this hits very close to home. We are deeply aware of the significant impact this will have on the Triton’s ability to provide training, competition, and development opportunities for swimmers in the region.
There has been significant media attention, including great coverage on CBC and Global News. Swim Nova Scotia, along with many concerned members, including swimmers, parents and community members has been actively advocating for the preservation of this critical facility by engaging with Acadia University, the Town of Wolfville, the Municipality of Kings County, and local MLAs.
How You Can Help
As Crusaders, we pride ourselves in our involvement in our community, and that includes the broader swimming community, so we encourage you to support efforts to save the Acadia Pool.
Swim Nova Scotia is actively working with Acadia University, the Wolfville Tritons, the local municipality, and the provincial government to explore all possible solutions to renovate/repair the pool and to explore opportunities for a new facility, and we can lend our voice and support!
